Owner Spotlight: John Hansen

I’m John Hansen, proud owner and president of the HouseMaster franchise in Hamilton and Burlington.

I look forward to sharing my story and hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I grew up and went to school in Fergus, Ontario. I began my career in the construction industry at a young age and worked in various fields including design, painting and decorating, carpentry, kitchen and bathroom renovations, plumbing, electrical, and other home improvement tasks. I then took my years of practical knowledge and experience and became a certified home inspector.

I began inspecting six years ago when I established my first company, Rest Assured Home Inspections. Then I purchased a franchise from HouseMaster, a property inspection service providing quality home inspections in Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Niagara Falls and surrounding areas. I have completed the required and additional courses to ensure that I am up-to-date with knowledge and skills to assist home buyers in making an informed decision. I am an active member of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors and sit on the boards of directors in some committees related to home inspections.

I chose this business because I enjoy helping people and wanted a valuable way to use all my years of experience in construction. The most enjoyable part of my job is knowing that my clients have the information to make a truly informed decision.

As the owner, I have varied responsibilities. Though performing inspections is my favourite task, I am also responsible for marketing the business, booking inspections, and educating myself on current trends.

On average, I work for twelve hours a day. I begin my day with the preparation of materials required for the day’s inspections. I always arrive at least fifteen minutes early to the inspection site and present my binder as it has a lot of information on how to protect the home or investment moving forward. I perform the inspection along with my clients so that they can learn how each system in the house works together and independently. After the inspection, I prepare a report for the client.

I use my observational skills and keen eye to perform reliable inspections. I am thorough and communicate with my clients in a clear and easy to understand manner. I attribute my success to a good education, strong ethics, and caring for my fellow persons.

The most satisfying moment as a home inspector was when a customer shared with me that the fee paid was “the best use of their money”. During the inspection, my client learned about a few problems with the septic system that would cost $25,000 to fix. This information helped decide whether to negotiate or walk away.

When I’m not working, I enjoy singing and playing the guitar. I also support the Big Brother program as a “Big Brother”. I firmly believe kids need strong role models to help them gain self-confidence and become the best versions of themselves.

I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.

If you or someone you know could benefit from my expertise in home inspections, I invite you to get in touch. Please visit my website at www.onestopshopinspections.com.

Sincerely,

John Hansen
